HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
November 27, 2008I
AM THANKFUL:
For the husband
who is on the sofa being a couch potato, because he is home with me
and not out at the bars.
For the kids
complaining about doing the dishes, because it means they are at home
and not on the streets.
For the taxes we pay,
because it means my husband is employed.
For the mess to clean
after a party, because it means I've been surrounded by friends and
family.
For the clothes that
fit a little too snug, because it means I have enough to eat.
For my shadow that
watches me work, because it means I am out in the sunshine.
For a lawn that needs
mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing,
because it means that I have a home.
For all the
complaining I do and hear about the government, because it means we
have freedom of speech…at least for now!
For the parking
spot I find at the far end of the lot, because it means I am capable
of walking and I have been blessed with transportation.
For our huge heating
bill, because it means we are warm.
For the woman behind
me in church who sings off-key, because it means I can hear.
For the pile of
laundry, because it means I have clothes to wear.
For weariness,
headaches, and aching muscles at the end of the day, because it means
I am capable of working hard.
For the alarm that
goes off in the early morning hours, because it means I am alive.
For too much email,
because it means I have friends who are thinking of me.
And
finally, above all else, for God who made all this possible.

So, where are we?
November 8, 2008"A
democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can
only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves
largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority
always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the
public treasury, with the result that a democracy always collapses
over lousy fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The
average of the world's great civilizations before they decline has
been 200 years. These nations have progressed in this sequence: from
bondage to spiritual faith; from spiritual faith to great courage;
from great courage to liberty; from liberty to abundance; from
abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to complacency; from
complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependency; from dependency
back again into bondage."
Alexander Fraser Tyler – Cycle of Democracy (1770)
